FESS/CASS
Patients undergoing endoscopic sinus surgery with Mr Sunkaraneni should start on the following regime from the first day after the operation:
1. NASAL IRRIGATIONS
– NeilMed® SinusRinse nasal irrigations – SIX times a day
2. ANTIBIOTICS
– Co-amoxiclav 375mg three times daily for 1 week (if allergic to penicillin, an alternative antibiotic will be substituted)
3. STEROID NASAL DROPS
– Betamethasone nasal drops 0.1% (2 drops twice a day) OR Fluticasone 400mcg/unit nasal drops (6 drops twice a day) to each operated side for 6 weeks
4. ORAL STEROID TABLETS
– Oral prednisolone 30mg once a day for 1 week (in patients with nasal polyposis)
SEPTOPLASTY
After septoplasty, patients should flush daily with NeilMed® SinusRinse nasal irrigations.
Rarely, splints may be inserted in the nose at the time of surgery and these will need to be removed a week after. Otherwise, patients will be seen 6 weeks after surgery
RHINOPLASTY
A rhinoplasty procedure will lead to varying degrees of bruising around the eyes and face. Dressings and a nasal splint will be placed over the nose at the end of the procedure and these tend to stay on for a week. You will be seen one week post-operatively to remove these.
If the rhinoplasty has been performed through an ‘open’ or ‘external’ approach, stitches will have been used to close the incision across the bridge of skin between the nostrils. These will also be removed after a week. During this time, you will need to apply antibiotic ointment to this area. You should also use a salt water spray to help remove the dry crusts in the nostrils.
Extreme care must be taken not to injure the nose for at least the first 3 months after surgery.
Patients will be seen again at this time, after which photographs will be taken.
